While it may have taken 25 years of deliberation and a move "across the ditch" from New Zealand to Australia in 2009, best friends April Carnie and Nicki Nesbitt, finally realised their dream - to own a business together.
Today, these women are the familiar, friendly faces behind the counter at the Shingle Inn Mt Ommaney.
April and Nicki say it was the Shingle Inn's established family friendly working environment, combined with their deliciously fresh products, which won them over immediately.
"We last worked together 10 years ago but have always talked about going into business together. Owning a Shingle Inn cafe has enabled us to do something special for the benefit of our collective families," says April.

Barista of the Year

Shingle Inn Mt Ommaney barista, Keenan Curran (pictured left) is ready for the Shingle Inn Barista of the Year comp.
Keenan has been working at Shingle Inn for the last five years, including six months at the newly opened Mt Ommaney cafe, and has been practicing her barista skills since 2008.
"While I've been trained professionally, I must admit I do take notice of how other baristas make their coffees, and then I try and better it," Miss Curran chuckled. "I spend a lot of time in perfecting the crema, then hand crafting my latte art for that added touch of coffee TLC." |
